3 tips for wedding guest outfits as a man
What should you pay attention to when it comes to your style as a guest at a wedding?
It is well known that girls should not wear a white dress at a wedding where they are invited as a guest. After all, you don't want to steal the show from the bride.
But what applies to us guys? What should we wear? What do we need to pay attention to?
The most important thing first
The important thing is: everyone wears the outfit in which they feel most comfortable. However, some things should still be taken into account.
Tip 1: The invitation card check
The first thing you should do is pick up the wedding couple's invitation card. You can often tell here which outfit is appropriate for the celebration.
Dress code
If a motto is specified on the invitation, this of course limits your personal choice of clothing and there is a given framework. For example, if the dress code “The Great Gatsby” is desired, you should choose an outfit with a 1920s look with a bow tie, suspenders and, if necessary, a vest. However, only a few weddings take place with a dress code.
Location of the wedding reception
An important note on the invitation as to which outfit you should choose is the location of the wedding celebration. A wedding in a noble hotel will of course have a different outfit than a summer wedding in a rural barn. While you should choose a classic suit in dark blue or black and also a three-piece suit for a more formal wedding in a chic hotel or other posh location, a much more casual outfit is the order of the day for a barn wedding or large garden party.
Tip 2: The season
The suit
Depending on the season, different colors and materials are available for suits. While lighter colors (natural, pastel green, light green, light gray) and light, breathable materials (for example a linen-wool mix) are more appropriate in spring and summer, it can be the complete opposite in autumn and winter. Suits in darker colors (dark green, dark blue, rust red) and made of warmer materials (new wool) are appropriate here.
The accessories
Of course, you can also add seasonal accents to any suit with accessories such as a bow tie, suspenders, cufflinks or pocket square. We would recommend more colors (mint green, old pink or yellow) for spring and summer and more muted tones (burgundy red, forest green or navy blue) for autumn/winter.
Tip 3: Pay attention to your better half
By the time you read this text, your girlfriend or wife will definitely have had her wedding outfit completely put together in her closet for a few weeks. The color selection for your accessories is already made for you. I know what I'm writing about.
You can now wonderfully match the colors of your better half's dress, shoes or clutch (service tip: small, elegant women's handbag) with your accessories. And if you don't want to be visually associated with her at the party, just choose the complementary color ;-)
